INCI Name: Kojic Acid Dipalmitate

Description

Kojic Acid Dipalmitate (KAD) is an oil-soluble derivative of kojic acid. Unlike kojic acid, it is stable to light, heat and metal ions and does not discolour, so it keeps formulations looking right over their shelf life.

KAD helps visibly reduce dark spots and uneven tone and is easy to add to the oil phase of creams, lotions and make-up.

Formulation Guide

Dosage (Range): 1% - 5%.

Recommended Dosage: 3%.

Stable in pH range:  5.0—8.0.

Solubility: Dispersible in oil.

Processing

  • KAD is difficult to incorporate into the formulation because it tends to precipitate in the form of crystals.
  • To solve this problem, add isopropyl palmitate or isopropyl myristate to the oil phase.
  • Heat the oil phase to 80℃ for about 5 minutes so that KAD completely dissolves.
  • Then add the oil phase to the water phase for emulsification at the same temperature for 10 minutes or so.
