INCI Name: Glycolic Acid

CAS Number: 79-14-1

Description

Glypure® is a high-purity 70% glycolic acid solution, the smallest alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). It is clear, colourless and odourless, making it easy to add to toners, serums and creams.

Glycolic acid gently loosens the bonds between dead skin cells, helping skin look smoother, brighter and more even. It also helps the skin hold on to moisture, reducing the look of dryness and flaking.

Formulation Guide

Recommended Concentrations

  • < 4%: minor exfoliation, in cosmetics for daily application
  • 4–12%: targeted application on prepared skin,
    special cosmetics
  • < 20%: Professional use

Optimal Effectiveness

  • We recommend working with a pH between 3.8 and 4.3.
  • If your formulation is sensitive towards low pH values, dilute GlyAcid® 70 HP with parts of the
water phase or pre-neutralize to pH ~4.0 prior to addition to the formulation.
  • The pH of the formula significantly influences the efficacy of Glycolic Acid. Glycolic Acid is 99% effective at pH 2.00, reduced to 87% at pH 3.00 and reduced to 50% at pH 4.00.
  • It is important to ensure that the formula has the optimal pH level for maximum efficiency.”
